Springfield Mom Faces Charges After Children Found Alone in Hot Car

A mother who allegedly left two children alone in a vehicle on a sweltering day is facing criminal charges, Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood said.

Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood said police have arrested a woman who left her children in a car on a day where the temperature was around 90 degrees.

The incident happened on Sunday, July 12, at around 8:45 p.m. at the Boston Road Walmart in Springfield where police found two children, ages four and six, left alone in a hot car.

“The window was slightly cracked and it was 89 outside and warmer in the car,” Clapprood said during a press conference.

The mother was located inside the store, shopping, when she was arrested, police said, and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment to a child. The name of the woman has not been released.
